Somaliland President Abdirahman Irro, speaking at the World Government Summit in Dubai, hinted US recognition may be imminent.

"We hope the United States will be the first country to recognise Somaliland," he said.

Somaliland has an 850-km coastline hugging Africa's most geostrategic waterway, was a strong democracy and stable nation, Irro added.
