“Africa” is dangerous: we cannot generalize on a continent that includes 54 countries, hundreds of different dialects and populations that have absolutely not the same modes and lifestyles.
Notion of Leapfrog: the term “leapfrog” is linked to the idea of “leaps”, “frog jumps” comparable to rapid technological innovations in Africa. This continent has experienced the development of digital by skipping major steps, and with different modes of appropriation of Western techniques. The jumps covered are strictly technical, but their use in Africa is unique and very different from Europe. Africans have had to invent modes of development and adapt to these technologies that are unsuitable for their culture(s) and infrastructure, and this has generated non-digital and digital innovations within populations.
This term also demonstrates Africa's great strength in adapting and exploiting digital quickly and efficiently. Thus, he envisions the idea of making Africa the future of digital and the likelihood that it will overtake Western skills in the digital field.
THE 1ST LEAPFROG: ICT
The African continent has its own specificities of appropriation of information and communication technologies. These tools have enabled it to modernize several sectors such as agriculture, trade and youth and women's entrepreneurship. Digital development in Africa has been largely achieved with the mobile phone, which is the most widely used ICT tool on this continent.
In the first chapter corresponding to the first leapfrog, ICT (Information and Communication Technologies), according to Jean Michel Huet the deployment of telecoms and information and communication technologies is the first leap that has allowed Africa the digital adventure. Until then reserved for developed countries, the Internet experienced significant progress in many African countries around the 2000s. Telecoms are thus considered to be the engine of digital development in Africa as everywhere else.

Africa has leapfrogged and taken ownership of it with many innovations in all sectors. “The market is almost run by local players.
